Viet Nam was high on my list of places I wanted to go while in SEA, but I thought I had dropped the ball by not getting a visa before leaving the U.S. Luckily, through traveling, I met some people who had been to Vietnam and gave me advice on how to go about getting a visa while I was still in Thailand! It was suggested to me that I check out a website called hotels-in-vietnam.com to get my visa letter. I filled out some forms and paid $15USD (add $10USD if you want it expedited within a day). I received an email that contained an approval letter and application for me to print and fill out. NOTE: when filling out the infornamtion on the website they ask for a date you “think” you will arrive… this is actually a hard date.
When I arrived in Vietnam (Hanoi International Airport), all I did was go to the visa application counter, give them my passport and application (with picture attached), and the letter I received from the agency. I also had a copy of my passport just in case. However, I met a girl who did not have her application and they gave her one there to fill out. 15 minues later they showed a picture of my passport on a screen, I went up and paid $25USD to get my passport back. Went through passport control and that was it. Easy peasey! Free to roam and explore Viet Nam for the next month!
